COSRX Acne Pimple Master Patch

You have followed a careful skincare regimen - always removing your makeup before going to bed, double cleansing, exfoliating, and regularly doing clarifying masks, but inevitably we all unfortunately experience acne.  Acne can be precipitated by hormones, stress, and even what we eat (especially dairy products, sugars, and fats).

What exactly is acne?  Throughout the surface of your skin are pores, which are actually tiny openings that connect to the glands deeper within your skin.  These glands produce an oily substance, which is called sebum.  Occasionally, the sebum and skin cells accumulate and essentially clog the pore.  If there is any bacteria contained behind this plug, then the inflammation and swelling of a pimple begins.

So now that you have that red and inflamed pimple, what can you do?  The main product that I rely on to battle my acne is the COSRX Acne Pimple Master Patch.  I typically use these pimple patches overnight - I apply them to clean skin, directly over the pimple, right before I go to sleep.  When I wake up, the pimple is much improved, if not completely resolved.  When I remove the patch in the morning, there is a white substance that has adhered to the patch from the pimple - slightly gross, but very gratifying to see.  This pimple patch is honestly the most effective skin care product that I've found to address my acne.  I always have them in my bathroom and I also always pack them in my suitcase as I often experience breakouts when I travel.

This product is a very thin hydrocolloid patch.  In hospitals, hydrocolloid dressings are frequently used for wound care (you may have heard of Tegederm Hydrocolloid or Exuderm dressings).  Like their medical counterparts, these hydrocolloid patches have a gel-like substance on one side that contains polymers and pectin, which are absorbent and pull out the moisture or exudates from the pimple, hence the white substance on the patch in the morning.  Furthermore, this patch prevents any additional bacteria from coming into contact with the pimple while it heals.  For me it also helps to ensure that I do not touch or pick at the pimple (I know I shouldn't but sometimes it's hard to resist!).  The COSRX Acne Pimple Master Patch is affordable at $5 for 24 patches on Soko Glam.  Each sheet contains three different sizes of patches - there is one for every pimple, no matter how big or small!

AHAs and BHAs, which are Alpha Hydroxy Acids and Beta Hydroxy Acids respectively, are very effective chemical exfoliants for your skin.  AHAs and BHAs help to smooth skin texture, brighten dull skin, and reduce the appearance of dark spots and fine lines.
